Respirator Fit Testing for Ontario Workplaces
MaskFit+ provides respirator fit testing for N95, R95 and P95 respirators, as well as reusable half-face and full-face respirators.
We provide onsite fit testing for organizations across Southern Ontario where employees rely on tight-fitting respiratory protection. MaskFit+ also offers scheduled public sessions for individuals and small groups.
Keep Your Team’s Fit Testing Current
Respirator fit testing confirms that a specific respirator make, model and size seals effectively to the worker’s face.
Workers should be fit tested before using a tight-fitting respirator at work.
Fit testing should generally be repeated every two years. Earlier retesting may be needed when the worker changes respirators or experiences changes to their facial structure, weight, dental work or other personal protective equipment that could affect the seal.
MaskFit+ provides onsite testing for new employees, existing teams and organizations managing recurring fit-testing requirements.
MaskFit+ prioritizes corporate clients and sends email reminders when employees are approaching their two-year recertification dates. Reminder emails may also be sent to individual participants when possible, particularly students who require current certification for practical placements.
Corporate and Onsite Fit Testing
Our fit testers travel to client offices, plants and workplaces, allowing employees to complete their testing onsite.
MaskFit+ works with organizations across industries, including healthcare, dental care, construction, manufacturing, maintenance, painting, welding, engineering and other workplaces where respiratory protection is required.
Onsite testing is available for N95, R95 and P95 respirators, as well as reusable half-face and full-face respirators. MaskFit+ can support new employees, existing teams and organizations coordinating recurring fit-testing requirements.
Corporate sessions may include:
- Qualitative fit testing for eligible respirators
- Respirator inspection
- Proper donning and doffing
- User seal-check instruction
- Respirator care and limitations
- Fit-test documentation following successful completion
Following a successful test, each participant receives a MaskFit+ certification card valid for two years.
The employer also receives a Mask Fit Certification Form signed by the participant and the MaskFit+ instructor for its HR files.
Each one-hour group session can include up to eight participants. One instructor can conduct up to seven sessions and test as many as 56 employees in one day. Additional instructors can run parallel sessions for larger teams.
There is no minimum group size.
The current minimum onsite fee depends on travel distance, and includes the first six participants.
Longer trips may include an additional travel fee. Discounts may be available based on confirmed participant numbers. For longer-distance locations, MaskFit+ may recommend a larger group to help offset the travel requirements.
MaskFit+ has travelled as far as Muskoka to support workplace teams.
Individual Fit Testing
Individuals can register for scheduled public group sessions for work, school or placement requirements.
Public sessions are offered in the:

- Toronto area
- Oakville area
- Hamilton area
- Kitchener–Waterloo area
- Guelph area
MaskFit+ uses scheduled training venues rather than permanent public storefronts in every community. The exact venue, date and available appointment times are shown during registration.
What Happens During a Fit Test?
Ontario recognizes two respirator fit-testing methods: qualitative and quantitative. The appropriate method depends on the respirator being tested and the requirements of the employer’s respiratory protection program.
MaskFit+ provides qualitative fit testing using a taste-based test agent.
MaskFit+ provides qualitative fit testing for:
- N95 respirators
- R95 respirators
- P95 respirators
- Reusable half-face respirators
- Full-face respirators
MaskFit+ does not provide quantitative fit testing.
OHSA-Aligned Fit Testing
MaskFit+ provides fit testing aligned with applicable requirements under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and CSA Z94.4 fit-testing methods.
A fit-testing session may include:
- Discussing employees’ rights when wearing PPE in the workplace
- Discussing the mask fit-test process
- Explaining what a fit test is
- Explaining the qualitative taste-test certification process
- Introducing the test agents to help participants feel comfortable
- Reviewing the respirator or mask
- Checking the respirator’s condition
- Proper donning and doffing
- Performing a user seal check
- Completing the required fit-test exercises
- Discussing care, use and limitations
- Receiving certification after a successful test
Qualitative fit testing is a pass-or-fail method. Quantitative fit testing uses equipment to measure leakage and produce a numerical fit result.
